Favorite Things Party

Last weekend I hosted a “Favorite Things” party. Have you heard of this?

There’s a few different ways to “do” the party, but essentially it boils down to each person buying a favorite thing (with a suggested dollar amount; we did $25–$30), and then there’s a gift exchange.

Self-care was a big theme with the women at my party: candles and beauty products showed up more than once, and then there were things like word puzzles, a 2-week yoga membership, a hand-made mug, and a productivity journal. Each person shared why the thing they brought was a favorite thing, and it was such a fun way to learn about each other!

(I gave lotion and soap from my recent trip to Paris.)

We did the old, “steal away, and the third person keeps it” game, and at the end I gave away a goodie bag with three of my favorite things:

  1. Cozy socks
  2. Laneige lip mask (Have you tried this? It’s my favorite!)
  3. My 3×3 manifesting journal

Hosting a “favorite things party” is a great way to build connections, express gratitude, and laugh—all core elements of increasing happiness and wellbeing (AKA probably why you signed up to hear from me).

Don’t have the time or desire to host a party? Here’s other ways to bring out those good feelings:

  1. Take 5 minutes to write down some of your favorite things, just for you.
  2. Set a timer for 2 minutes and say out loud some of your favorite things. You can do this alone, or with a friend to double the joy.
  3. Send an email to friends with something that made your life better this year, whether it’s a kitchen gadget (like this egg piercer for easier-to-peel boiled eggs), or a favorite meditation on YouTube or a show on Netflix that made you smile.

Wishing you a week filled with your favorites!

P.S. Did you see last week’s note about the epic spot I did my journaling? I’ll be replaying that one in my mind for a while.
