45 minutes in an mri machine

I slid into an MRI machine yesterday…not because I knew something was wrong, but because I wanted to know before something was wrong.

The company, Prenuvo, calls it “proactive health.” A full-body scan that can flag issues early, before they become serious.

The scan I chose took about 45 minutes. It was loud with beeps and buzzing, and it was a bit uncomfortable to lie still and hold my breath many times throughout, but it wasn’t painful. I have so much empathy now for anyone needing to do an MRI coupled with the anxiety of looking for something specific. I also kept imagining how awful it would be for a child to go through this, or being a parent watching a child go through it.

Getting this scan was a privilege. It was a choice that I’m grateful to be able to cover.

The same is often true for our mental wellbeing. Having time to rest before you’re exhausted, space to journal, funds for therapy or coaching—those are privileges too. Not urgent, until suddenly they’re everything.

That’s part of why I teach tools like journaling, vision boarding, and quick mindset resets. They’re small, accessible ways to check in before the moment of stress becomes absolute overwhelm. Not all-encompassing, but a place to start.

If you’ve been waiting for “something to be wrong” before taking care of your inner world, here’s your invitation: don’t wait. My free, “How to Be Happy Now” class is one way you could check in. Watch here.
